Written Chinese is far more than a communication tool. It's part of the social structure in this very old nation. Happy patients express their gratitude by bringing their doctors red banners made individually for this occasion. Such banners decorate reception rooms in every clinic.

In a modest tribute to Chinese culture I took a calligraphy class today. My professor owns a bookstore and after hours writes beautiful words on the small table in front of his shop.
