The Chinese had a revolutionary idea:

Train stations are for passengers

Entry only after security check up and with a valid ticket, purchased online. I also saw a counter with human service (lost phone?) but almost no people there.

The result:
comfortable seats in the waiting hall,
free internet
free mobile charging stations
no junkies
no thieves
clean and free toilets
nobody searching for empty bottles in trash cans like in Germany.
train crew is there to bring you water, not to check tickets.

My complaint: no hot coffee on board.

The boarding procedure is the same as on airlines.
