I caught a variety show at the Red Theatre in Beijing today. It started with classic Chinese opera, then moved into acrobatics with music. The motorcycle act was the real showstopper. They had this huge, see-through metal sphere on stage—about 10 meters in diameter (roughly 31 meters in circumference). Five riders entered it, one after another within maybe 30 to 40 seconds, and started riding along the inside walls. It looked so close to a crash that people around me were actually trembling. This explains why I did not take video. The lighting and music matched the intensity well. I also noticed the bikes ran on gasoline, which you hardly ever see on the streets these days. Tickets were 280 to 880 RMB. The theatre itself had good sightlines, so every seat worked fine.
