Going to China without walking the tea fields? Think again.

In the village of Meijiawu, just one hour by 103 bus from Hangzhou, a few hundred families dedicate their work to growing tea. The famous Longjing brand originates there.

Plenty of green vegetation around, not just tea. A relaxing walk. The farmers open their doors expecting visitors to drop in and order a coup.

Although tea growing is known in Meijiawu from the 14th century the village ows much of it's prosperity to one of the biggest proletarian revolutionaries, then Prime Minister Zhou Enlai (周恩来 1898 - 1976). He visited the village multiple times, sometimes with foreign state guests who witnessed his encounters with local producers.

The village elders remember Zhou Enlai coming to the school and encouraging children to learn and to improve every day.

The old school has now been turned into a small musem, worth visiting to keep the memory of the great communist leader.
